My rating: 5 of 5 stars “it was amazing”

First things first – read book 1 (Birthmarked) if you haven’t already. Caragh O’Brien continues Gaia’s saga in this sequel. We’re moved from Gaia’s original home and the dystopian Enclave to a new “post-environment” society with its own rules, characters and scenery. Caragh successfully builds the world of Sylum. I especially enjoyed her treatment of the main characters, the 32 games concept, and the world building (Bachdetter’s Island, the lodge, Chardo’s place, winner’s cabin). Looking forward to book 3.

Five star “it was amazing” feeling stems from the fact that the author was my creative writing teacher in high school, and a mentor in my college years.
